RTC3311A : Perform Specialised Machinery Maintenance
Course Description :
This competency standard covers the process of maintaining specialised machinery and equipment.
Specialised machinery and equipment, for the purposes of this unit of competency, refers to any machinery and equipment used in agriculture, horticulture, conservation and land management work. In these industries maintenance is particularly important as there is a high level or wear and tear on components and efficient running of the machines is vital for maximum crop quality and yield.
The focus in this unit is on combine harvesters, and tractors. The theory in this unit was developed based on John Deere machinery however it is easily adaptable to any other brand of machinery
In this competency participants will develop the skills to diagnose machinery problems, carry out engine and equipment checks, transmission checks, replace high wear components (such as oil filters and belts), and record maintenance work in a log book. Participants will also acquire the knowledge that supports these skills. These skills will be developed in line with organisational and industry guidelines
To achieve competency in this unit participants must demonstrate that they can:
- carry out routine maintenance on headers and tractors
- understand the safety and the knowledge behind the maintenance
- identify possible solutions to mechanical problems with the machinery
