RTE3029A : Establish Agricultural Crop
Course Description :
These three competency standards (RTE3009A,RTE3024A & RTE3029A) cover the processes of; interpreting planting plans, manufacturers specifications and Material Safety Data Sheets(MSDS); operating, adjusting, calibrating, checking, maintaining, repairing and cleaning machinery / equipment; calculate the application requirements and apply fertiliser, herbicides, insecticides and pesticides; identify weeds and insects; demonstrate emergency operating procedures; report machine faults / damage and workplace hazards and accidents; demonstrate safe environmentally responsible and sustainable land management practices and communicate with work teams and supervisors. Participants will also acquire the knowledge to support these skills.
To achieve competency in this unit participants must demonstrate the skills mentioned above as well as;
- show they have an understanding of relevant machinery / equipment,
- cultivating methods,
- crop types,
- seeding methods,
- soil types and conditions,
- weeds,
- diseases,
- pests,
- fertilisers,
- pesticides/herbicides,
- harvesting strategies,
- relevant OHS & licensing legislation,
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE),
- machinery cleaning practices,
- sustainable land management techniques and positive environmental practices.
