Unit of Competency TLILIC2001 Licence to Operate a Forklift Truck (LF)

Definition of a Forklift

A forklift (also known as lift truck or fork truck) is a powered industrial truck (other than a pedestrian operated forklift truck) equipped with a mast and an elevating load carriage to which is attached a pair of fork-arms or other load-holding attachment.

Legislation

Current Workplace Health and Safety (Qld) legislation requires operators of (HRW) High Risk Work licence to complete formal theory and practical training delivered by Ag Training who has been certified by Workplace Health and Safety to deliver the TLILIC2001 competency Licence to operate a forklift truck.

Once formal training is completed, informal training (logged experience operating the machine) is  required under direct supervision of a licenced supervisor. After these hours have been completed and verified by your supervisor/trainer. Ag Training must be notified to arrange the final written and practical assessment.

Workplace Health and Safety (Qld) require three (3) working days’ notice before the assessments. An inspector from Workplace Health and Safety (Qld) may be present to audit the assessment.

For practical experience (logbook hours to be treated as informal training) the trainee must:

  • Have already completed formal theory/practical training delivered by Ag Training
  • The leaner must be under direct s supervision of a licenced operator, and have all logbook entries signed off;
  • Trainees must be 18 + years of age to complete the final assessment;
  • You must have basic numeracy and literacy skills and the ability to read, write and speak English;
  • Have a residential address located in Queensland.

Unlicensed operation of a forklift can, and will, incur large Workplace Health and Safety (Qld) fines. for the unlicensed operator, in much larger measure for the business.

In the event of an accident or incident there is no insurance cover and all concerned will likely be prosecuted by a court of law.
